Molecular motion in anisotropic medium. III. The carbon-13 relaxation study of 13CH3CN: The general A X 3 spin system

Summary: | The coupled relaxation of an AX3 spin system 13CH3CN dissolved in a nematic phase (EBBA) is studied. The incompletely averaged dipolar interactions allow one to observe a quartet in the carbon domain and a sextet in the proton domain. This rather complex proton spectrum is subjected to nine different spin preparations involving the selective inversion of either one or two lines. The time evolution of the spin system is then studied in the 13C spectrum. The relaxation processes are modeled as dipole–dipole interactions, and all other mechanisms are collectively treated as external random fields. A restricted diffusion model is used which takes into account the preferential orientation of the solute molecules. All the results obtained are fully consistent with the data obtained by studying the proton spectrum alone as an A3 spin system. |
