New cutoff and resonance for dust acoustic waves in dusty mesosphere

Summary: | The WKB approximation has been employed to study the impacts of dust density inhomogeneity and dust size variation on dust acoustic (DA) wave propagation in the mesosphere. A local dispersion relation is obtained, which introduces one cutoff and one resonance frequency. It is shown that the growth rate of a gradient instability and the range of the amplifying wave propagation are substantially affected by the dust size distribution and density inhomogeneity. Moreover, in the low dust density region, the amplitude and the steepness of DA increase. |
