description A method is presented for the swift reconstruction of electron density profiles measured by the alkali beam emission spectroscopy. It is based on the linearization of the governing rate equations and leads to a direct calculation for obtaining the profiles. The uncertainties of the measurement are incorporated into the problem through the utilization of Tikhonov regularization and the generalized least squares method. An approximation for the uncertainty of the reconstructed density data is calculated as well. The applicability of the method is tested against both simulated and real experimental results of the W7-X stellarator.
