Description
Summary:There are ca. 40 biogeographic regionalisations of the Baja California province, that differ in the criteria used and the names and categories given to the different units recognised. Maps of the biogeographic regionalisations of the Baja California province were compared, detecting similarities and differences in the units recognised, and the names assigned to them were reviewed. As a result, eight units are recognised, each one representing a natural biotic unit, harbouring a particular assemblage of endemic species. The units recognised are the Central Desert, Gulf Central Coast, Guadalupe Island, Vizcaíno Desert, Sierra de la Giganta, Magdalena Plains, Cape and Sierra de la Laguna biogeographic districts. In order to help researchers interested in comparing the results of the analyses of different taxa using varied approaches, a map of the districts is provided.
