Description
Summary:Comparison of the luminescence spectra of europium and terbium compounds was suggested for direct evaluation of the influence of compression of the lanthanide wavefunctions in transition from europium to terbium-'lanthanide compression'. It is possible because the types of symmetry of the states of the Stark components of europium 7 F J energy levels determined previously could be used for assignment of corresponding components of Tb 3+ energy levels. This procedure can lower the ambiguity of calculations of the crystal field parameters for terbium compounds.
