Summary:In this article a comparison of two of the most important specimen-producing MVT districts, the Illinois-Kentucky district and the North Pennines, is presented. The most abundant ore minerals in MVTs are sphalerite (Zn) and galena (Pb). Other common minerals include pyrite, marcasite, dolomite, calcite, quartz, and occasionally barite, fluorite, celestine, gypsum, anhydrite, native sulfur, and pyrrhotite.
