Summary:In a retrospective case-control study, adults with anaerobic bacteraemia (ANB) were matched to patients with aerobic bacteraemia based on source of infection (1:3), date and age. We identified diabetes mellitus as a significant risk factor for ANB when the source of the bacteraemia was unknown, OR 2.29 (95% CI 1.22-4.29).
