THERMODYNAMIC ANOMALIES IN NEAR-CRITICAL AQUEOUS NaCl SOLUTIONS

Apparent molar properties of near-critical aqueous NaCl solutions have been reported to show very large anomalies. Description
Summary:Apparent molar properties of near-critical aqueous NaCl solutions have been reported to show very large anomalies. We show that these anomalies are to be expected in any dilute solution of a nonvolatile in a near-critical solvent. Debye-Hückel effects need to be handled with some care; if inserted in the Helmholtz free energy, they cause no more than a higher-order effect.
