Description
Summary:Three-way catalytic converter (TWC) is considered as the most effective solution to reduce emissions in new electric fuel injection engines. The usage of the TWC on carburetor system will not promote the advantages because the carburetor system could not guarantee a suitable ratio of air and fuel. In this experimental study, an air supplement system (ASS) has been provided on a carburetor motorcycle equipped with the TWC to supply clean air into exhaust manifold to ensure the existence of oxygen elements in exhaust gases for the enhancement of oxidation environment in the converter. The performance and emission characteristics of the engine and the conversion efficiency of the TWC in the cases of with and without the ASS have been evaluated. The results show that the ASS affects the engine performance, emission level reduces remarkably for both HC and CO components, however, the conversion efficiency of NO x is dropped.
