Summary:Examines the role of Cuban intelligence in the genesis, management, and resolution of the crisis known as the Cuban Missile Crisis in the USA and the October crisis in Cuba. In particular, the article seeks to explain the organisation and operation of Cuban intelligence; its assessments; its relationship to Soviet intelligence; and its relationship to Cuban politics and policy making. The account is based on the author's recollections of experiences in the Cuban government and on conversations with knowledgeable individuals during the period in question and subsequently.
