Summary: | The author describes the characteristics of parasitic personality organization along with its developmental origins, especially pertaining to deficiencies in the formation of the sense of self. Special attention is paid to phases of child development and the formation of parasitic personality organization as an outcome of disruptions in the attainment of subjectivity. Parasitic relatedness as an interpersonal manifestation of parasitic personality organization is also considered. The author describes how parasitic personality organization influences individuals' relationships in adulthood and how this may impact psychotherapy. The role of empathy in the formation of subjectivity is also considered. Current injunctions are assessed in relation to the conditionality of subjectivity, and a new injunction is introduced. |
