Description
Summary:Basketball in Île de France has evolved since the spread of American basketball-hip-hop ('hip-hop ball') culture in France in the 2000s. The boundary between street players and club players is increasingly blurred, as they have changed the way they play and their representation of practice as a result of coming into contact with the culture of American basketball. The article seeks to demonstrate that it is useful to go beyond the traditional classification based on the 'spatio-ludic' criterion (street/club) to redefine and understand basketball players in the Paris region. Taking an analysis approach with regard to the close relationship players have with hip-hop ball culture, the authors wish to propose another way of interpreting basketball in Île de France. This will highlight the effects of the influence of American basketball on basketball in Île de France and the sociocultural and identity considerations arising from them.
