Summary: | Calorimetric results on an Al-Mg-Cu alloy do not agree with a recent interpretation of positron annihilation experiments but support earlier proposals. The first hardening stage in Al-Cu-Mg alloys is caused by the formation of Guinier-Preston-Bagaryatsky zones; their replacement by more stable phases increases the amount precipitated and leads to a second rise in hardness with increasing temperature. |
