Summary: | Two welding processes used for the construction of overland and submarine pipelines are described: a semi-automatic one and the mechanised 'PASSO' one, both based on the MIG process.
Technical and economic results achieved in the construction of large projects using both these processes are presented.
Use of the mechanised 'PASSO' process has allowed great gains in productivity during the laying of submarine pipelines fabricated from C-Mn steel pipe and duplex ferritic-austenitic stainless steel pipe, where severe technical requirements are specified for the welded pipe joints. |
