Description
Summary:This article analyzes the key vectors of economic development in those U.S. and Canadian northern (Arctic) regions that have been identified in federal and provincial strategies: transportation strategies, strategies for industrial development, and strategies for coordination of economic cultures. It also studies the particulars of their influence on the course and development of regional economies. On this basis, it proposes the following likely scenario for the strategies' influence on the future development of the regions: they will preserve the primary resource nature of the economy, although in individual regions that economy will be diversified. The potential for conflict between traditional and modern cultures will remain.
