Description
Summary:This study explored the health behaviour of academically gifted high school pupils in Potchefstroom, in the North West Province of South Africa. The study was oriented towards behavioural and social science, and its basic philosophy is described as a lifestyle approach. The survey is based on an anonymous self-completion questionnaire. The Health Behaviour in School Aged Children (HBSC) questionnaire was administered to determine the health behaviour of 78 white, Afrikaans speaking high school pupils. The results of this study found the adolescents healthy, happy, and leading a healthy lifestyle. They enjoy happiness, make friends easily, are seldom lonely, are happy at school and are accepted by the other pupils. The results compared favourably to the results of the 1997/1998 HBSC survey. Limitations of the study centered on the nature of the sample.
