Summary:This paper presents experience collected by engineers from COWI during involvement in design, maintenance, rehabilitation and management of several major cable-supported bridges all over the world. First, the major problems encountered during the exploitation of major existing cable-supported bridges are discussed. Then, several aspects of maintenance and management of such bridges are presented. Finally, the main issues related to the proper design and rehabilitation of major cable-supported bridges are analysed. At the end of the paper, a number of case studies related to the maintenance, management, rehabilitation and design of major cable-supported bridges are discussed.
