Summary: | August Strindberg's first wife Siri von Essen describes the picturesque village of Grez-sur-Loing and the main activities of the male and female artists who stayed at the Hôtel Beauséjour, among them the Swedish artist Carl Larsson, his wife Karin Bergöö, the Norwegian Christian Skredsvig, and Strindberg himself. Daily life consisted of strolling in the garden, swimming in the river Loing, and painting outdoors, all interspersed by regular meals and, in the evening, by music and perhaps dancing with the occupants of the Hôtel Chevillon. |
