Summary:Using the American Counseling Association (ACA) Advocacy Counseling Competencies (ACC), this article describes how clinical mental health counselors (CMHC) can advocate for juvenile offenders (JO) across the micro, meso, and macro service levels. The importance of collaboration between the mental health system and juvenile justice is described throughout, alongside the importance of intentional collaboration across all levels of the ACA ACC. The specific needs of the JO population including severity of mental health, high rate of marginalized identities, and impact of systemic racism are described, indicating this population is highly vulnerable. We offer specific suggestions for using the ACA ACC for CMHC in various settings.
