Summary:Eight compounds of general formula [R 1 (CH 3 ) 2 SiCH 2 ] 2 Sn- [O 2 CCH 2 (R 2 )CHGeR 3 3 ] 2 [R 1 = CH 3 , C 2 H 5 ; R 2 = C 6 H 5 , C 6 H 4 OMe-3/4, R 3 = CH 3 , N(CH 2 CH 2 O) 3 ] have been synthesised from [R 1 (CH 3 ) 2 SiCH 2 ] 2 SnCl 2 and R 3 3 GeCH(R 2 )CH 2 CO 2 H in the presence of triethylamine. (Me 3 CCH 2 ) 3 SnO 2 CCH 2 (R 1 )CHGe(R 2 ) 3 [R 1 = C 6 H 5 , C 6 H 4 OMe-3; R 2 = N(CH 2 CH 2 O) 3 ] have been synthesised similarly from (Me 3 CCH 2 ) 3 SnCl. The compounds have been characterised by 1 H, 13 C, 29 Si and 119 Sn NMR. The structure of a precursor, Cl 3 GeCH(Ph)CH 2 CO 2 H, has been re-determined and shown to be a hydrogen-bonded dimer rather than a monomer as previously described.
