Summary: | Far-UV radiation in molecular clouds photodissociates molecular hydrogen and creates neutral atomic layers between the ionized and the molecular material. Hydrogen molecules reform efficiently on grain surfaces where adsorbed H reacts with other molecules. Results of models of isothermal uniform photodissociation regions that reproduce the main characteristics observed in the 21-cm hydrogen emission are shown. |
