Description
Summary:We have determined the distribution of the ionization of the interstellar medium within the vicinity of the Sun due to the ultraviolet radiation from nearby white dwarf stars. If one assumes steady state conditions, the ionization is irregular and does not consist of one large continuous cloud, but instead consists of irregular regions of ionization with occasional mergers of the Strömgren spheres. We also present a compilation of the known white dwarf stars within 20 pc of the Sun.
