Summary: | The Geneva dolomitic limestone of the northern portion of the southern Indiana Middle Devonian region, which formerly has been considered as either a lithologic facies of the Jeffersonville or Sellersburg limestones or both or a distinct formation older than the Jeffersonville, is shown by paleontologic and stratigraphic evidence to be a lithologic facies of the Jeffersonville. Since the Geneva and Jeffersonville are variations of the same geologic formation, the former name, by the custom of priority, should be applied to all the Indiana Devonian of Onondaga age. A direct sea connection between the northern and southern Indiana areas during Sellersburg time is postulated, and a new member of the Sellersburg formation is named. |
