Description
Summary:This Article Highlights Findings on Human Reproduction and on Reproduction in Infra- Human Mammals Culled from Studies in the Social Sciences, Reported in Childbearing: Its Social and Psychological Aspects, Edited by Stephen A. Richardson and Alan F. Guttmacher, M.D. (2). in the Critical Review of a Wide Range of Researches the Following Major Findings are Reported With Notable Consistency: Social-Environmental Stress During Pregnancy Appears to have a Generational Chain Effect in Humans as well as in Infrahumans. Studies in Many Countries in Widely Varied Times and Circumstances Report a Close Correlation Between Low Socioeconomic Dass and Reproductive Difficulty. Researches on the Psychodynamics of Pregnancy Indicate a Paralleling of Psychological Attitudes and Physiological Reactions. Compared with other Societies, Modern Industrial Society in its Cultural Patterning of Child- Bearing Offers Minimal Support to the Pregnant Woman and Sanctions Child-Care Methods That are, in Some Strategic Aspects, not Attuned to the Emotional Needs of the Infant.
