Summary: | We report on broadband magneto-optic light modulation in a bismuth-substituted yttrium iron garnet waveguide film. By utilizing uniform ferromagnetic precession of the in-plane magnetization and the Faraday effect, optical modulation tunable over a wide range, from 1 MHz to 1.8 GHz, is demonstrated in a low power miniature device. The ability to tune the modulation bandwidth via an externally applied magnetic field allows the response of the device to be dynamically controlled. |
