Summary: | Using hybrid and electric propulsion systems (HPS and EPS) as part of commuter airplanes provides a wide range of opportunities for creating fundamentally new aircraft configurations. The main idea is that HPS and EPS allow for flexible aircraft energy redistribution. Therefore, the propulsion system’s efficiency increases, which leads to a decrease of its environmental impact and improves its economic performance. The main barrier to implementing new HPS and EPS commuter airplanes concepts is the inadequate level of technological advancements. This paper covers the review of promising concepts of propulsion systems, and provides the list and the required level of technical perfection for technologies necessary for future commuter airplanes. |
