Summary: | Coastal erosion can be seen on practically every beach in Malaysia, but it is especially common on the country’s east coast. Depending on the severity of the erosion, coastal erosion has been addressed using a variety of methods and treatments. However, it is critical for coastal managers and responsible authorities to have an erosion index that can be used to determine the level of erosion so that suitable mitigation and treatment methods may be designed. The factors that contribute to coastal erosion must be identified and classified, and this study will use a literature review and community feedback questionnaires to identify the primary factors that contribute to coastal erosion. The AHP method will be used in this paper to assess the level of contribution of each parameter influencing coastal erosion. According to the findings of the AHP analysis, coastal structure was the most influential factor in coastal erosion, followed by human activity, waves, and wind, with weights of 0.5333, 0.2404, 0.1804, and 0.0459, respectively. This weighting of factors will be supplementary to existing guidelines such as NCES in making quick decisions, particularly in coastal areas that require immediate mitigation, and will serve as an additional guide to local agencies in planning. |
