Summary: | Various azine heterocycles (pyrazine, quinoxaline and quinoline) possessing phosphonium salts (3a-3c) were prepared as cationic biocides. The structural characterization of the phosphonium compounds was confirmed by FTIR, NMR and HR-Mass spectroscopy. These compounds has shown excellent bactericidal activity against two Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis) and two Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae). Quinoline functionalized phosphonium has shown more antibacterial activity than pyrazine and quinoxaline. |
