Description
Summary:Fifty-two patients suffering from infections caused by multi-resistant bacteria were treated with cefotaxime. Twenty-six had urinary tract infection, 12 septicaemia, 8 respiratory tract infection, 6 meningitis, 1 endocarditis, 1 soft tissue infection, and 1 typhoid fever. Three patients had dual infections. Treatment was successful in 39 patients, including one with endocarditis, and another with meningitis caused by a highly resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae strain. The patient with typhoid fever failed to respond to cefotaxime. There were few side-effects apart from 4 patients who developed rashes.
