Description
Summary:A modification of the EMIT® Drug Abuse Urine Assay procedure for use with the Centrifichem® Series 400 centrifugal analyzer is described. The procedure change utilizes the EMIT Drug Abuse Urine Assay kits but the relative amounts of buffer, bacteria, reagent A, reagent B, calibrators, and patient specimen have been decreased to the 300 µL minimum volume of the Centrifichem analyzer. The influence of bacterial settling which occurs due to centrifugation has been studied and has been shown not to interfere with the assay. This new procedure permits high volume testing of urine specimens for opiates, barbiturates, amphetamines, cocaine metabolite, propoxyphene, benzodiazepine metabolite, and methadone at a significant decrease in cost per test with an increase in precision.
