Description
Summary:Carcinomas were induced in CFLP mice after application of an acetone solution of benzo[a]pyrene to the skin of the external auricle. Histologic preparations were examined of all tumors and the surrounding cartilage for study of the pattern of tumor growth in connection with the cartilage. Of 100 animals, 81 developed carcinomas, up to walnut size, enveloping the cartilage but never infiltrating the bridges of the cartilage of the ear. The cartilage had a high resistance for carcinoma infiltration. The findings were discussed in connection with carcinoma infiltration into the respiratory tract of the golden hamster.
