contribution of photosynthate to turgor pressure rise in the planktonic blue green alga Anabaena flos aquae
The turgor pressure of the cells of the planktonic blue-green alga Anabaena flos-aquae increases following transfer of the alga from low light intensity to high light intensity. Up to half of this rise in turgor pressure may be due to the accumulation of soluble photosynthate. This estimate is based...

Summary: | The turgor pressure of the cells of the planktonic blue-green alga Anabaena flos-aquae increases following transfer of the alga from low light intensity to high light intensity. Up to half of this rise in turgor pressure may be due to the accumulation of soluble photosynthate. This estimate is based on direct measurement of cell water, extraction and fractionation of 14C-labelled soluble products of photosynthesis, and simultaneous measurement of turgor pressure rise. |
