Summary: | Darkening functions for the true limb of the Sun have been observed at four wavelengths in the continuum between the Paschen and Balmer limits, namely at 6190,4760,4150 and 3860A. The monochromatic limb intensities, which originally are on purely relative scales, are provisionally transferred to absolute scales by means of Pierce and Waddell's darkening functions extended to the limb. The calibration is improved by means of Pagel's model II for the chromosphere, by integrating it for the line of sight intensities in a narrow interval of height covering the base of the chromosphere. The resulting limb radiations, which concern the projected heights between + 400 and − 500 km relative to the base of the chromosphere, are collected in Table V. |
