Summary: | The duplicate pollen-sterile locus ms8 was shown to be located in linkage group (LG) V on Ah chromosome H12, as predicted. Recombination values between loci in LGV obtained in the course of the study suggest that the gene order in LGV is similar to that in the homoeologous LGIX on Dh chromosome H26. The order of the five loci studied here is probably Bw1 — Gl2 — N1 — Ne1 — (centromere?)—Ms8. Loci N1 and Ne1 were found to be tightly linked (3.8 ± 2.3 cM). In different experiments, wide differences were found in recombination frequencies between the same two linked loci, both in the present study and in the literature. Some of these disparities may reflect the fact that many of the alleles have been introduced into G. hirsutum from other species. |
