Polyamine content in relation to ploidy level and to different organs of Nicotiana plumbaginifolia

Levels of free and bound polyamines (PAs) have been analysed in different organs of diploid, haploid and hypohaploid phenotypes of Nicotiana plumbaginifolia. In leaves and stems there is a positive correlation between the content of the PAs bound to macromolecules and ploidy level. In contrast, in f...

Description
Summary:Levels of free and bound polyamines (PAs) have been analysed in different organs of diploid, haploid and hypohaploid phenotypes of Nicotiana plumbaginifolia. In leaves and stems there is a positive correlation between the content of the PAs bound to macromolecules and ploidy level. In contrast, in flowers a negative correlation is found with bound spermidine (Spd) levels. Besides the ploidy degree, the high levels of Spd in the flowers of the haploid and hypohaploid phenotypes might be also due to the abnormal floral development and thus supports the view that this triamine could play a role in floral differentiation.
