Summary: | Aircraft observations have been carried out of the vertical gradient of the biologically effective downwelling UV irradiance from the sea level up to 10 km over Greece. The radiometric data were obtained during the experimental campaign of the the project entitled 'Radiation Field in the Troposphere'. This campaign took place from 7 to 14 June 1997 and covered a large part of Greek territory. The research aircraft used was a Falcon 20-ES from DLR. To obtain the data a UV-501 Biometer (SOLAR) was mounted on top of the research aircraft. The mean vertical gradient of the effective UV irradiance was 7-10% per km depending on the variability in the amount of the atmospheric constituents which modify the optical properties of the atmosphere. |
