Description
Summary:The accidental inhalation by two people of tritiated water is described. One person incorporated approximately 35 GBq (1 Ci) and was treated by forced diuresis. Her committed effective dose equivalent was ~0.4 Sv. The diuresis procedure and physiological monitoring of the patient is described. The other person incorporated only about 1 GBq (0.03 Ci) and accelerated his excretion of tritium by extra drinking. The clearance rates of tritium-in-urine are presented for both subjects and are used to estimate committed effective dose equivalents. These are compared with values from cytogenetic dosimetry derived from repeated blood sampling.
