Summary: | The response of a CR-39 dosemeter can be calculated for any neutron energy and angle of incidence, provided that the restrictions on energy and direction of a proton, that permit it to give a visible track, are known. These restrictions can be characterised by three parameters which depend on the conditions of electrochemical etching and on the type of CR-39. By suitable choice of these parameters we can account for wide variations in the shapes of energy response curves, measured in various laboratories. Such calculations also explain how changes in the material and thickness of the radiator affect the energy response. They show that the angular response is not a strong function of energy, except below about 0.3 MeV, but are only moderately successful in predicting measured angular distributions. |
