Description
Summary:The response characteristics of two thermoluminescence detector systems, one using MgB4O7 and the other LiF as phosphor, and developed for application in beta dosimetry have been investigated. Both types of detectors exploit the technique of incorporating carbon to make them 'effectively thin' with a view to improving their response characteristics for low energy beta radiation. The results indicate that whereas their relative sensitivity to low energy beta radiation has improved, the absolute sensitivity has diminished, resulting in high detection thresholds. Some methods for improving the absolute sensitivity for one of the systems are suggested.
