Summary: | The measurement of weakly penetrating radiations presents problems in the design of suitable instruments and in the interpretation of their readings. The design of an ionisation chamber is discussed, with particular reference to the method employed to generate the required energy response for photon radiation for the quantity directional dose equivalent. The problems of optimising the response for beta radiation are described, and the limitations of the adopted solutions are discussed. |
