Summary: | The influence on the response of portable photon radiation monitors of backscatter and attenuation by the instrument user is investigated using tissue equivalent phantoms. The conclusion is that instruments whose characteristics are acceptable when measured in free air will not be unduly affected by backscatter from the operator. There is, however, a significant attenuation of radiation incident from behind the operator. |
