Description
Summary:VACM‐1/cul 5 cDNA expression in COS‐1 cells inhibits cell growth. The mechanism of this regulation involves MAPK phosphorylation, but the direct target of VACM‐1 activity is not known. To identify genes that may be comprimised by overexpression of VACM‐1 cDNA, we performed microarray analysis. Our results showed that in COS‐1 cells transfected with VACM‐1 cDNA, mRNA levels for several genes including Aquaporin‐1 (AQP1) were decreased. To extend these observations further we examined the effects of VACM‐1 on AQP1 in COS‐1 cells at the protein level. Our results indicate that in COS‐1 cells transfected with VACM‐1 cDNA, endogenous expression of AQP1 protein is decreased significantly (n=6, p
