Simulation and modeling of self-modulated re-entrant beam crossed-field amplifier
The operation of a new re-entrant beam, cold-cathode, crossed-field amplifier (CFA), modulated by pulsing only the RF input signal (self-modulation) is described in this paper. The results of experimental and theoretical investigations are presented. It is shown that the self-pulsed CFA has a gain o...

Summary: | The operation of a new re-entrant beam, cold-cathode, crossed-field amplifier (CFA), modulated by pulsing only the RF input signal (self-modulation) is described in this paper. The results of experimental and theoretical investigations are presented. It is shown that the self-pulsed CFA has a gain of more than 12 dB and an electronic efficiency above 40% over a 6-8% bandwidth in X-band. The output power reaches 4.5 kW at the anode voltage of 8.2 kV. |
