Description
Summary:LP/sub 01/-LP/sub 02/ intermodal interference in a conventional communication optical fiber has been studied theoretically and experimentally. The visibility of the interferometer and its dependence on the detection scheme and the relative excitation efficiencies of the LP/sub 01/ and LP/sub 02/ modes have been theoretically considered under the assumption of a Gaussian modal distribution. The results of the experimental investigation of the response to longitudinal strain, temperature, and hydrostatic pressure are reported.< >
