Summary: | We suggest establishing an accurate and reliable database of bat echolocation calls. Such a database must describe call shape and characteristics using standardized recording and analysis methods. The database should link echolocation sequences to behavioral observations in order to assess the degree of signal plasticity caused by different environmental conditions. This database would be an invaluable tool not only for species identification, community comparisons, and distributional patterns of bats, but also for global issues in bat conservation. |
