Summary: | A general overview is presented of the use of computers in different areas of a research project intended to study the adequate protection of distribution systems against lightning. The effects of lightning on electric power distribution are examined. The modeling of lightning and other phenomena, which is needed to perform analytical studies to predict distribution system reliability against lightning, is discussed. Field measurements of ground flash density and lightning location are described. Areas that require further research are identified.< > |
