Description
Summary:This paper presents a novel hydrostatic pressure sensor using high birefringence photonic crystal fibers (PCFs), featuring an enhanced sensitivity with wide range of detection along the length of fiber. The proposed PCFs exhibit higher order of birefringence as ~10 -2 , which is achieved by the introduction of two elliptical hollow channels stressed at major axis in the cladding region. The consequence of these two elliptical air holes is investigated to enhance the pressure sensitivity. This paper promises to yield very large pressure sensitivity of 87.5 pm/MPa through its transmission spectrum at a pitch constant of 1.5 μm with 0.468 μm of minor axis of elliptical cladding in a fiber length of 1 cm.
