Description
Summary:In this paper, we report in details about the development of weight based ultrasonic capillary viscometer by using extension spring suitable for measuring absolute viscosity of Newtonian liquids. In the proposed system, ultrasonic sensor is mounted on the top of a vertically suspended extension spring. A circular metal reflective plate is attached at the bottom of the spring so as to reflect the ultrasonic waves back to the sensor. A cylindrical tank with capillary tube is attached at bottom of the extension spring. When the liquid samples start to flow through the bottom hole of the capillary tube, the change in weight and flow time of the liquid sample are measured by the ultrasonic sensor in association with a data acquisition system. The proposed viscometer is used for measuring viscosity at 20°C and 30°C. The experimental results show a good agreement with the standard viscosity of the test samples. The advantages of the proposed viscometer are simple in its design, low in cost, having response time
