Summary: | Simultaneous power and data transmission is possible by data injection into control signals of power converters without additional hardware. In this letter, a modified analog hysteretic current control is discussed, which combines data transmission with efficient quasi-square-wave zero-voltage switching. A half-bridge GaN converter with 99.1% efficiency is investigated with respect to power conversion efficiency and data transfer. Measurements show that, compared with the digital PWM, a wider range of current ripple modulation is available for data transfer before the power efficiency drops. The feasibility of talkative power conversion (TPC) in the presence of frequency jitter is demonstrated. |
