Summary: | The transient, two-dimensional temperature field in a rectangular structural element subject to time dependent, nonlinear mixed boundary conditions has been obtained with a minimum of numerics. General results are given for two extreme fire histories, the American Society for Testing and Materials E-119 time-temperature curve and a short-duration high-intensity time-temperature curve. Comparisons are made with finite element and experimental temperature fields in a reinforced concrete column; good agreement is obtained. The stress field generated from the analytic temperature field also shows good agreement with finite element calculations. Applications to structural fires are discussed. |
